Puriton’s T.J. Toms staged a solid display of race-craft to claim a top-ten finish during Round 8 of the Pirelli Superstock 600 series at Hampshire’s Thruxton circuit last weekend, 3rd to 5th August.

T.J. has impressed with his pace and point-scoring potential during his debut year in the series, despite setbacks which include crashing out of his race heat at Brands Hatch a fortnight ago. Taking Brands in his stride, T.J. came to Thruxton – his home-track – with confidence and composure.

In a crowded field of more than 30 riders, T.J. claimed P14 and P13 in his two free practice sessions, progressively improving his pace to get within 2s of the leader. He reached further to qualify in P7 with a brisk time of 1m20.542s, +1.530s from pole. He then eclipsed this time to set a best lap of 1m19.872s and finish P8 in a closely fought race-heat. T.J. takes 8 points from Thruxton and rises to 13th on the leader-board.

“P7 in qualifying was great,” said T.J. “I did my fastest lap without a slipstream which is a really important factor at Thruxton. We had really strong race-pace and we were going to try for top-five on race day.

“During Sunday’s race, I got into a big, close, six-way battle for P3. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the grip to pass on the last lap and finished P8. Overall, I’m happy with the weekend’s points and the fact that I’m still the top rookie out there.

“Massive thankyous go out to all of my supporters and sponsors, including R&G Crash Protection, 4SR Leathers, Kris Gibbons, Munchkins Catering, Keith Goldsmith, Johnson Metals, SMW Builders, Baytree Transport, Clearview Windows, Cool Milk, K&B Motors, Swindon Karting and Horgan Hills Electrical.”
